Sevilla FC (also known as Sevilla Futbol Club, Sevillistas, Rojiblancos, Los nervionenses or Los Palanganas) is a professional Spanish football club that plays in the Spanish top-flight; La Liga. Sevilla FC was founded in 1905 and the club's home matches are held at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium which has a spectator capacity of 45,500; the stadium is named after its former president Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Sevilla's players wear white shirts with red striped sleeves and black socks for the home matches and red shirts with white striped sleeves for the away matches.

After bouncing between the first and second divisions in the 1960's, Sevilla FC achieved promotion to the top-flight in the early 1970s and played there while finishing in mid-table positions until relegated again in the 1996/97 season. 2 seasons later, Sevilla FC was promoted back to La Liga for the 1999/2000 season. With JoaquĆ­n Caparros as the new coach, Sevilla won the 2000/01 Second Division title. In the 2003/04 season, Sevilla FC reached the semi finals of the Copa del Rey, managed to qualify for Europe and earned a ticket for the 2004/05 UEFA Cup.

Sevilla FC finished the 2004/05 season at the 6th place and by that secured its place in the first round of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup. Sevilla advanced through the first round, group stage, round of sixteen, quarter-finals, semi-finals and became the first Andalusian team to win a European final when Sevilla defeated Middlesbrough in Eindhoven to win the the club's first UEFA Cup. Sevilla's UEFA Cup winning ensured its place in the 2006 UEFA Super Cup in which Sevilla defeated the Champions League title-holders and league champions FC Barcelona and won its second European trophy in 3 months.

Sevilla FC finished the following 2005/06 La Liga season in the 5th place and therefore qualified for the first round of the 2006/07 UEFA Cup. Sevilla advanced again towards its second consecutive UEFA Cup final and won the UEFA Cup title for the second time in a row.
