Lazio football team (AKA S.S. Lazio, SSL, or officially, Società Sportiva Lazio) is a top Italian football team from Rome. Lazio was founded in 1900 and spent most of its history at the Seria A. Lazio have been the Italian champions twice, won the Italian cup 5 times, and have other major achievements, both in Italy and in international tournaments. The club had its first major success at 1958 winning their first Coppa Italia. The past twenty years were the best S.S. Lazio had ever known, with 4 additional Italian Cups, One Italian Championship and three Super Cups victories. In 1999 Lazio won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup (1998-99) and the UEFA Cup.

S.S. Lazio plays at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, which they share with their city rival A.S. Roma. The two teams play the Derby della Capitale (Rome Derby) since 1929. The Stadio Opimpico has a capacity of over 72,000 seats, and because of the two Seria A teams that share it, hosts a game every weekend of the season.

In 1998, during Sergio Cragnotti's period in charge, Società Sportiva Lazio became a joint stock company. Lazio were the first Italian club to do so. Along with Juventus and Roma, Lazio is one of only three Italian clubs listed on the Borsa Italiana (Italian stock exchange).

A research from 2008 notes that Lazio is the sixth most supported club in Italy. The fans are, traditionally, from the Northern parts of Rome. The more fanatic fans hold the Curva Nord of the Olimpico stadium where they perform ultras displays. The most elaborate performances are made during the Rome Derby against A.S. Roma. Lazio fans hold strong rivalry with Napoli and Livorno, but have friendly relations with Inter Milan, Triestina and Hellas Verona (all clubs from the North of Italy). International friendships exist with Real Madrid, Espanyol, and Chelsea FC.
